NumberPerf can be used to mark the passport booklet uniquely and irreversibly.

The NumberPerf security feature
NumberPerf uniquely identifies documents, as a unique number is perforated. The laser creates holes which have no reverse embossing.
NumberPerf is a perforated document number through the visa pages of a passport booklet. The diameter of the holes is larger on the first pages, than it is on the last pages.
This effect can only be created by laser and is thus a protection against mechanical counterfeiting. The number links the data page to the rest of the booklet and prevents page swopping.
The big advantage is that the same document number is also laser engraved or printed on the document close to the perforated number, an easy cross-check is all it takes to authenticate the document.
